Huge benefits in
throughput and objectivity
GelCount is a cost effective and reliable solution to
the problem of counting colonies manually. It not only
has a dramatically effect on improving counting throughput
but its inherent objectivity and consistency eliminates
human error due to subjective interpretation, bias or
plain fatigue - a particularly acute problem when manually
counting under microscopes.
A novel imaging and sample-handling solution
Using an ingenious high depth-of-field scanning technology
combined with a software-controlled sample-loading mechanism
for automated handling of up to 4 multi-well plates,
GelCount is capable of single-pass imaging of colonies
in 3-dimensional matrices while ensuring reliable detection
of colonies and spheroids down to a 30 µm diameter.
Second-generation CHARM algorithm
Using our advanced CHARM II algorithm, GelCount provides
unsurpassed colony detection capabilities including
resolution of overlapping colonies and differentiation
of real colonies from debris, contamination and bubbles.
The multi-thread aware, user-friendly software interface
also provides extensive, preview-able controls for setting
colony detection sensitivity, colony size thresholds
and shape-related parameters.
Single, integrated platform for colony counting
GelCount represents an all-in-one solution conceived
specifically to permit the user to go from colony samples
to colony counts & statistics at the click of a
button. Colonies are imaged, images transferred, processed
& characterized and the data collated/exported from
within a single, integrated hardware/software platform.
Gone is the need to manually count colonies or the unsatisfactory
alternative of imaging samples on one device, then transferring
these to and processing them within an independent,
compromised image analysis package.
Importantly, the integrated approach also permits the
archiving to disk of all raw colony images, supporting
full-functionality, ‘off-line’ reprocessing
even where the original samples are no longer available.
Flexible and versatile, yet powerful
GelCount is suitable for counting stained or unstained
colonies in semi-solid media such as soft agar, and
also for counting classic stained, adherent colony types.
With its easy-loading, motorized drawer system, it can
process up to four multi-well plates (6-, 12-, 24-,
48- or 96-well) and up to 24 Petri dishes in a single
tray for high-throughput counting.
GelCount’s feature-rich software additionally
provides a wide range of statistical outputs, including
means of colony diameter, colony area and ‘distance-to-nearest
neighbour’. These are also available as raw 'per
colony' data, providing unparalleled data extraction
from every well or plate. At the touch of a button,
GelCount can provide these data in the form of histograms,
providing the user with hitherto unavailable information
relating to colony growth dynamics.
