| Comprehensive Windows-compatible
software (in version 5 as of March 2009!)
provides an intuitive yet highly sophisticated image processing
and colony analysis solution.
The screenshots below provide
a sneak preview at the user-interface and serve to introduce
some of the primary software features:
 |
 |
 |
| |
For every dish or flask
analyzed, ColCount displays the image and highlights
all detected colonies on the image by red, size-proportional
triangular markers. The colony count and related colony
statistics such as mean colony diameter are displayed
in a summary panel in the left margin. Standard zoom
controls and ‘panning’ functionality are
available to view selected regions of the dish or plate
close up.
|
|
|
|
|
Individual colony ‘statistics’, such as
colony diameter can be called up and viewed in the form
of a histogram for a given dish or flask. Histogram
data can be manually or automatically exported in bitmap
or in Excel®-compatible raw data formats.
|

|
|
|
A representative sub-region of the dish or flask can
be selected for the generation of customized colony
detection parameters. The selection is viewed within
the ‘CHARM Optimizer’ which allows extensive
control over colony detection via adjustment of numerous
parameters including the ability to include or exclude
colonies based on definable diameter thresholds.
Custom detection settings are stored
to disk as templates and can be re-called. ColCount
achieves outstanding counting proportionality and reproducibility
by objective and consistent application of these user-defined
settings.
|

|
|
|
The Data exportation options include direct exportation
of summary data such as colony count and mean diameter
information to Excel®.
ColCount also provides options
for saving images of dishes/flasks in bitmap or in raw
image formats. The raw image format supports processing
or re-processing of samples in ‘off-line’
mode on any independent workstation with the software
installed.
